School Counselor's message
Hello McKinley Families,
I’m so excited to be your school counselor at McKinley Primary School this year! As a school counselor, I’m here to support all students in their social-emotional growth, academic success, and career readiness. I help lead school-wide programs that encourage our Mallards to be safe, be respectful, be responsible, and be kind every day.
This year, I’m especially looking forward to teaching students how to build strong friendships, work together to solve problems, develop life skills, and grow into “PurposeFull People.” I will be visiting classrooms regularly to deliver social-emotional lessons to all of our students using the CharacterStrong PurposeFull People curriculum. This program focuses on three core goals which are: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well. These values support students both in and out of the classroom.
-
Be Kind: Social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, and Cooperation
-
Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals. These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, and Perseverance
-
Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, and Creativity.
For some students that are in need of additional support, I provide short-term counseling services through small groups or individual sessions. To participate, students must have a signed school counseling release form on file. You may request this form from me, your student’s teacher, or the front office.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if there’s any way I can support your student. I look forward to partnering with families to help all of our students grow and thrive!
Best,
Ms. Morgan
